With the orders and resources created, you would want to use your resources such that all the orders can be served in the best possible way. You can optimize the trips using any of the following flavours of planning:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Optimize Fleet Capacity<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Optimize Distance and Time<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Balanced Allocation<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Sequence Orders<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Optimize Fleet Capacity:<\/b> You can optimize your resource utilization using this flavour of planning. This flavour takes into consideration the fixed and variable costs entered for a delivery associate or vehicle. The planning engine would try and allocate the orders to the minimum possible resources. Using this flavour of planning, you can also estimate the number of delivery associates or vehicles you would need to fulfil all the orders selected for planning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Optimize Distance and Time:<\/b> When you have a fixed set of resources, you may want to make sure that the delivery associates serve the orders in time so that they are ready for another round in the day. You can plan by optimizing their distance and time taken to serve the orders. <\/span>Here, the variable cost of delivery associate or vehicle is considered while planning whereas fixed cost is not.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Balanced Allocation: <\/b>You may want to allocate orders among your fleet in a balanced manner, in terms of trip time or capacity. You can balance the workload based on trip time, number of orders, weight of orders, or volume of orders. Based on the selected balance preference, the trips can be created with little variation. However, note that using this mode does not guarantee equal distribution. Behind the scenes, this mode first comes up with several options for optimized order allocation as per time, distance, no. of vehicles used, and other constraints. Among those options, it picks the one that supports balanced allocation as per your preference (trip time or any of the capacity parameters). Hence, if no options are found that can support balanced allocation, the planning results would not have balanced allocation either.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Sequence Orders:<\/b> You may want to assign orders to a particular delivery associate and optimize the route in terms of the sequence of orders that should be serviced in the trip. With this optimization technique, you just need to define the delivery associate who would be servicing the order and plan. Based on the capacity and time availability of the delivery associate, the planning engine will create an optimized trip. In case the capacity or time is fully utilized, then the planning engine will let the orders be unassigned rather than trying to assign it to any other possible delivery associate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    Based on your selection, the engine would give a preference to the selected optimization. The system along with the optimization type uses multiple planning properties to plan the best possible trip for delivery associates.
