Auto-assignment Objective

Within an Auto-Assignment Profile, you can configure auto-assignment properties for delivery associates, carriers, or both. This is defined under the Auto-Assignment Objective. Based on whether you want to auto-assign orders to delivery associates, carriers, or both, use the toggle buttons to make your selection.

If you select delivery associates, you will get the option to enable FIFO Order Assignment for them. If enabled, it will let the Auto-Assignment engine prioritize order assignments in a First-In, First-Out (FIFO) fashion. That is, the engine will try to assign orders in the sequence in which they were received. FIFO Order Assignment works by creating queues of orders. At each pickup location, it creates a queue of orders, where each order stands in the sequence it was received. The order that is the first in the queue gets considered for auto-assignment first, however it is not guaranteed that it will be auto-assigned first. This is because the engine takes into account various other parameters, such as skill set match, for assigning orders. If the first order cannot be assigned to the currently available delivery associates, then the engine would move on to find a suitable delivery associate from the available pool for the second order. However, the engine will continue to prioritize auto-assigning the first order before others, until the time it remains in the queue. This time is defined in the parameter Maximum Queue Time (More on this parameter later in the article). When FIFO Order Assignment is disabled, the engine tries to assign all the orders parallelly, without prioritizing any order, regardless of the order creation sequence.

If you select both delivery associates and carriers, besides getting the option to enable FIFO Order Assignment for delivery associates, you will also get the option to specify your Auto-Assignment Objective Preference, i.e., whether you want delivery associates or carriers to be considered first for the auto-assignment of new orders.

B. Similarly, if there are only 2 delivery associates that can fulfill the order, it will be broadcasted to both of them. The eligibility of the delivery associates to be considered will be as per the Auto-Assignment Mode selected i.e. Minimize Time and Distance or Consider Driver Available Time. For example,
-If the Auto-Assignment Mode is set to Minimize Time and Distance and the Maximum Pool Size is configured as 2, then 2 eligible delivery associates who can fulfill the order at the earliest in its service window will be offered the order.
-If the Auto-Assignment Mode is set to Minimize Time and Distance and the Maximum Pool Size is configured as 1, and if there are 2 eligible delivery associates who can fulfill the order in its service window, then the offer will be extended to the delivery associate who has been available for the longest time. This means that if the Maximum Pool Size is configured as 1, and there are more than 1 eligible delivery associates, then the auto-assignment engine will fall back to delivery associate availability for decision-making.

2.1.4 Broadcast Orders to Delivery Associates: Turning this property ON would mean that if an order is not assigned to any delivery associate in the first auto-assignment attempt, the order will be broadcasted to 20 eligible delivery associates in the second attempt.
